April 2009: On April 3rd, 2009 the WARE project conducted an "East Tampa stormwater Bus Tour" led by Ms. Evangeline Best, Chairperson of the ETCRP. The group consisted of 11 kids from King’s Kids (grades 1-4) and 8 from Lockhart (grades 4 and 5), 6 USF folks, including 1 Professor and 1 staff member. 3 elementary school teachers and 1 middle school teacher from Young Middle Magnet. The tour started at 12:30 pm and ended at 2:45 pm with stops to 15 stormwater ponds that were selected by Ms. Best. The group stopped at the Fair Oaks Lake, one of the first redeveloped ponds. There they used the HYDROLAB probe to measure water quality parameters and also took water samples. The group also stopped at the pond opposite Young Middle Magnet to see what the next beautification project will look like.

October 2008: Dr. Trotz and members of Engineers for a Sustainable World USF (Joniqua Howard, Ken Thomas and Erlande Omisca) spent a class period at King's Academy located in East Tampa. Pastor Johnson met us at the East Tampa Community Survival day in August and asked us to come and speak with his class, especially since his school just got a stormwater grant from SWFMD under the Splash Mini Grants program. The 3th and 4th graders in his class spent the hour learning about water, it's qualities and treatment. Using warm water filled with coffee beans and tea leaves we also used things from the kitchen to discuss water treatment processes (e.g. a colander strainer, a coffee filter).
August 2008: The Engineers for a Sustainable World USF Chapter began working on its EPA P3 proposal entitled "Water Awareness Research and Education (WARE) - East Tampa." On Saturday August 16th, Dr. Trotz (ESW's faculty advisor) and ESW student members participated in the East Tampa Community Health Day held at the 18th street park. The chapter used hands on demonstrations to raise awareness of water related issues and gave out handouts that were donated from watermatters.org.
